Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) like the Renault Master and Nissan NV400 frequently endure demanding conditions such as heavy payloads and long-haul driving. To help maximize turbocharger longevity and effectively reduce fleet maintenance costs, FIRE TURBO's technical experts would like to share 3 practical maintenance tips:

Gentle Start, Idle Before Shutdown
After operating under full loads or at highway speeds, the internal temperature of a commercial vehicle's turbo can reach several hundred degrees. Never shut off the engine immediately upon parking. We recommend letting the engine idle for 1-2 minutes. This allows the circulating oil to dissipate excess heat, preventing oil from coking inside the turbo bearings due to extreme temperatures, which can cause seizing.
Beware of DPF Blockage and Exhaust Backpressure
Modern diesel engines like the M9T and Z19DT require a highly unobstructed exhaust system. If the vehicle's DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) gets clogged and isn't cleaned promptly, exhaust backpressure will spike. Excessive backpressure not only causes oil leakage at both ends of the turbo but, in severe cases, can lead to the turbo shaft breaking due to uneven stress.
Regularly Change with High-Quality Engine Oil
Under working conditions, a turbo's rotational speed can easily exceed 100,000 RPM, making a steady flow of clean engine oil its only "lifeline." Please remind vehicle owners to change high-quality fully synthetic oil and oil filters on schedule to prevent impurities from wearing out the journal bearings.
